I've finally installed the latest version, 7.5.32193 (updated March 5th) and it IS a big improvement over the previous version I had on my Note 2. There are no minuscule font size issues anymore. Preliminary tests indicate it's fast as well, but I have yet to try it for a few days.
It's a pity for Opera as I've become accustomed to UC Browser, as it works, saves on data and never black screens. Data usage when in mobile mode is on par with Opera. I am nevertheless willing to give Opera another chance and will be testing it again in the next few days and come back with further test results.
I am appalled that I had to say I'd be 'testing' Opera, but that is exactly what it has come down to and how serious it is: UC Browser is that good, and if I hadn't been a long time Opera user already I wouldn't have bothered trying the latest version again.
It's sad that this excellent browser, who has had the opportunity to become the world's standard always seems to fail seizing the opportunity. That is definitely the case with Opera for the desktop: more often than not, Opera has accused the world of not conforming to its lofty standards which it insists are world standards instead of its own, instead of looking for ways to adapt to reality like other browsers do.
I would strongly recommend Opera management to reconsider their attitude and instead learn from its competition because the way it is going, it may well end up a sideline to history like it almost is now on the dektop. That certainly feels like it after having used UC Browser for the last few months.
