Ok, i did as much testing as i could think of and/or make sense of, results wise...results as follows:
1st, at some point previous (not sure if in this thread or elsewhere) i posted that for me at least, i had to put saved pgs on the root of my sd card, in order to access them & that if i began instead, putting them in main or subfolders, that they were no longer accessable. That, may or may not have been true then, or mightve been due to a mistake/flaw in the process i was doing, but is not the case now, regardless of the former reason.
You can indeed put saved pgs both on the root and/or in main folders (assuming that folders created on the root are correctly called main folders...otherwise, i guess they would be called subfolders).
So, you can for example, put saved pg "a" on the root, saved pg "b" in a folder named "other" (created by you, in the root) & saved pg "c" in a folder named "saved pages". All would then be accessable, once you point your saved pages function, in mini, to the corresponding root or folder.
So that provides categorization. You can create different folders as such, for that purpose, but i have not yet tested whether subfolders within those folder categories, could also be used, i.e., "saved pages">"2012">january (so forth & so on), but i dont see why not?
As to how these various category folders are treated or affected in terms of size limits, i dont know, as i dont have enuff saved pgs yet to haved reached and/or tested that aspect, however its a very important factor to know, so any knowledge or input re: that would be good to post.
It is VERY VERY IMPORTANT..... to know that pointing your saved pgs directory to the correct folder in card (or whatever other memory types there are, in use) is not only necessary, to access those particular saved pgs, but, that doing so is not necessarily as easy as you might think. Doing so is not the same or as direct, as simply browsing ones' memory card. Its also not as intuitive. There are certain steps that to me at least, didnt seem to make full sense.
Part of the confusion (for me still) is the business of the "other" folder". I had previously posted that i have an "other" folder on the root of my card, but that i could no longer remember if i created it, or if it was placed there by "the system" (opera, i presume?). I now tend to think it was put there by the system, not by me, because there appears to be another "other" folder, a seperate & different one im pretty sure. I know that a certain pathway must be taken thru 1 & then into the other, in order to access the other folder where i had some saved pgs sitting, for purpose of this test. But it seems strange because the "pathway" i speak of is not shown as such, in the pathway string, yet you are forced to follow it to "get there". Perhaps i am confused about directories, folders & subfolders, i dont know? But i do know that this "pointing your saved pgs option to the right folder, is not as direct, simple & intuitive, as I myself & i would assume others, might think, consequently, i'm betting it would explain some, if not many, reported cases of ppl having seemingly lost their saved pgs, when in reality, they just havent followed the right process and/or pathway. Also possible, is to actually lose (for real) some saved pgs in the process, when mistakes are made (as i have lost 2 or 3 during this testing process, most likely doing a test i havent explained yet).
The next important aspect is whether or not the saved .ombl files (and backed up on pc or another medium) can be used to actually restore lost or missing saved pages & if so, if such a restore-ability could be used "cross-version(mini)".
I dont know yet if such restore is possible cuz i'm afraid to delete my saved pgs & try to restore from saved .ombl files. It just occurred to me that maybe the way around that is to add duplicate or unwanted/unneeded saved pgs & working this angle from there. I will try that.
I was however, able to try the cross-version test. In addition to this "om next", that im using, i also have a modded version of 6 & i have a 4.4 as well. I tried every which way i could find, but could NOT add any saved pgs, from my .ombl files, to either of those browsers....altho curiously, there "might"ve been 1 exception: in 1 case, in the modded 6, when i went to look if the group of saved pgs i had attemped to add were there, they were not, but there was 1(2) of a saved pg i recognized, but dont know if it was 1 of the group i attempted(but it probably was). Also, 1st there was 2, then 1 & that changed a few times & they both looked to be the same but couldve been 2 diff pgs w/same title? The thing is, i had only very recently installed this ver6 & had not added any saved pgs to it, so someth strange about that happening & potentially, an important element, cuz they DID get added, cross-version, when no other successes in this test. (i dont know what the "mod" is about, possib a factor?).
This brings up the numbers in the .ombl files. While most of mine are 16's, i had noticed that sometimes they are 15. That led me to wonder if the # is key to where these files can go? So i tried changing a few 16's to 15's & testing if any would add to any version, but that didnt work. But maybe you need the right # to match up w/the correct mini ver??? Any input on this aspect would be greatly appreciated, because if these details can be worked out, the potential, is to have a complete, secure & reliable backup 4 everything.
