Last post by ornsman: Hey I just tried installing Opera Mini 7 on my Nokia.

I see its built on the same structure as Mini Next i.e its a native Symbian app now. It installed completely seperately on my phone, so no data was transferred over, however the old version was left on my phone intact...

Tell a lie, it seems there IS still .jad/.jar versions of it (I have better download link now):

I guess you knew this much already - I might try giving this a go to see how it works.

Ideally the people behind this would encode some sort of redundancy, so when Mini is updating a file (like _b5f_6.rs, with all the speeddial entries and icons), it saves changes to a temporary file - not directly update the file itself, so that when it goes wrong you are left with an inoperable app.

What I can tell you is that on my old Nokia, based on S40, you could drop .jad/.jar files into a folder on your memory card and they would run straight from there, making it easy (you could copy/move the folder). On my current S60 phone, they get installed into the system so you have to fiddle about trying to find it, and thats if you can get at it anyway??!

The best thing I can suggest to you or other people is to use your phone's backup to backup your application data files on a regular basis, that way they can be restored if corruption happens, although this could be a pain because it would revert all your other apps back to a previous state also... doh!
:yuck:
