Single column view is not such a good work-around. You can't zoom in and pan the picture, which was available before when viewing images.
I've got opera mini 5.0.3521, 5.1.21594 and 6.5.2.26801 on several devices, and all of them don't load like they did before.
Hope Opera fix this image scaling issue.
