Blackberry adopts an "always on" approach to data connections.
Blackberry runs processes and functions in the background that still use data even though you might not be aware of it. BBM and e-mail are two of the most obvious ones.
So even though you may have only used 1MB through Opera Mini you have clearly used 3MB through other applications, probably in the background.
I have a Blackberry too, which forces me to run BBM in the background and the lack of control the user has in this respect is one of my main complaints against them
