There are too many restrictions put in developers way and access to certain API's are either too restricted or non existent. Tell me how many web browsers are available on Windows Phone that don't use the built-in IE engine and are pretty much just user interface add-on's or modifications.

I don't see it happening until Microsoft allow more access to to Windows Phone from a developers point of view. Blame Microsoft, they are the ones stopping or restricting the development and expansion of Windows Phone, so go and complain to them.

I see UC Browser can develop for windows phone and does not complain of MS restrictions....but Opera can not. UC Developer Team already testing UC Browser v3.1 for WP now.
LinuxMint7 asks for an example of a browser not based on the built-in WP IE engine and you come up with UC Browser, which is based on the built-in IE engine! Of course UC isn't complaining about any MS restrictions, UC Web is a company that has no ideals apart from spilling a sub-par mobile browser skin in the market. What engine it runs on? IE Trident and its proprietary crap? It doesn't matter to them.

Anyways, I wouldn't buy the argument there are restrictions now though. In WP 7.x there wasn't support for native code, but since WP 8 developers can now use native code it seems it's possible (I don't know, I may be very wrong!). So whether a Gecko or Blink-based browser, or Opera Mini, is able to run in WP 8 it's something that remains to be seen.
