It seems that the above given issue should be directed to your network providers.
Both Opera Mini 4.2 and 7.0 don't have any problem to login to the Yahoo Mail in both desktop versions - YM Classic and New YM,
don't mention YM for mobiles.
I never had any problem with Opera Mini (4.x, 6.x to login to my Yahoo Mail accounts, this applies to Java versions: 4.x. 6.x, Next and 7.0.
